Top Acts of the Rock Era from Liverpool, England

Of course, the obvious "first out of the mouth" answer is the Beatles.  But if you think that's the only successful act from Liverpool, you would be way off.  There have been several others from the Liverpool area and Merseyside to enjoy success during the rock era.  Let's face it, when you have four musicians from Liverpool as famous as the Beatles, there has to be considerable inspiration to form bands.

Rick Astley

Badfinger (also from Swansea, Wales)
BB Mak ("Back Here")

Beatles
Cilia Black ("You're My World", several European hits)
Melanie Chisholm, member of the Spice Girls and solo performer
Elvis Costello
Dead or Alive ("You Spin Me 'Round")
Echo and the Bunnymen ("Enlighten Me" and several European hits)
A Flock of Seagulls ("I Ran (So Far Away))"
Frankie Goes to Hollywood
Billy Fury (a string of hits in the UK)

Gerry and the Pacemakers
Michael Holliday (lots of hits in the UK)
Icicle Works ("Whisper to a Scream" and numerous UK hits)
Billy J. Kramer (started group Billy J. Kramer and the Dakotas)
Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark ("If You Leave" and "So In Love")
Merseybeats (several UK hits)
Scaffold (several hits in the UK)

Searchers
Space ("Female of the Species" and several UK hits)
Rory Storm and the Hurricanes (the group Ringo Starr was in before the Beatles)
