Some of the names just outside of The Top 100 Artists of the Rock Era*

Toto, Steely Dan, the Dave Clark Five, KISS and Barry White, just some of the great acts just outside of The Top 100 Artists of the Rock Era*. We say this only to let you know the high bar there is to be included in this elite special for the last 60 years. All of those artists except KISS have been ranked in The Top 100 Artists* at one time (I have been ranking the artists since 1976.)

We can also tell you that because of our copyrighted formula we use to rank the artists, we can quantify the difference between #100 and the artists above. As is the case with each range of The Top 100 Artists*, there is little difference between #100 and those directly below them. In the case of those five artists named above, the difference is about two more all-time greatest hits, 8 million more album sales, 5 more major awards, $200 million more in concert revenue or 5 million more in airplay, or some combination of the above.

When coming up with your guesses as to which artists make the special, remember that it isn't necessary to be a "Rock & Roll artist". The time period is 1955-2016, and if an artist was wildly successful during that time period, it doesn't matter if they "rocked" or not. Again, think huge appeal and longevity.
